Location/Client: Papua New Guinea/AusAID
Time frame: January 2003
Educo led a pre-feasibility study of the application of ICT in Papua New Guinea for the Government of that country and AusAID. This included a review of existing technologies applied by AusAID and other donors, in addition to an assessment of potential initiatives appropriate to PNG.
The objectives were to:
- identify opportunities and limitations in the use of ICT to improve education and access to other key knowledge areas to support PNG's agenda for sustainable development;
- to suggest opportunities for further investigation which might lead to efficiencies in AusAID's country strategy for poverty alleviation.
n conducting the study, the GoPNG and AusAID expanded and simplified the potential applications of ICTs to include media such as radio and television so as to cover the full spectrum of ideas within which the aid program works. This shift aimed to strengthen the focus on development needs, and the complementarity of ICTs to promote and support appropriate use of these technologies and allow greater flexibility of defining potential activities, including enhancing service delivery, as well as supporting the aims of governance and whole of government trans-national initiatives.
