1. Educo on track towards environmental targets.

The following article is taken from 'Bunda Pride, a periodic newsletter of the Old Narrabundah Community Council:

Narrabundah-based company, Educo Pty Ltd, has donated 90 trees to our Landcare Group to replace oxygen used by its vehicles.

"Educo's generosity in supporting local landcare to safeguard our global environment is greatly appreciated" a member of the landcare group said.

The company's managing director, Roger Ley, read that it takes about 17 native trees to absorb the carbon dioxide produced by one car in a year. "When you think about it, a tree doesn't cost very much, and it's a pretty good investment. Who knows, the trees might outlast the company!" he said. "This is a chance for us to replace the oxygen used by our vehicles, and do something positive for the community at the same time. We're only a very small organisation, but we'd like to donate enough trees to replace the oxygen our cars use. We hope to go on doing it each year from now on".

Established in 1995, Educo is an international project design and management company. "We've managed an AusAID-funded project and run a car in Papua New Guinea since 1998, so we're going to do the same thing in Port Moresby," Mr Ley said.

The landcare group will plant the trees donated by Educo, all Australian natives, in the vicinity of Jerrabomberra Creek adjacent to Matina Street, Narrabundah (near Mill Creek Oval).

Planting will take place from 2.00 pm on Sunday 10 November 2002. Anyone wishing to help is welcome to join in. They should bring gloves, bucket and spade.

2. JAG Positions Advertised in PNG

Port Moresby, January 2003. The first positions on the Secretariat for the newly formed Papua New Guinea Justice Advisory Group will be advertised this week. "The Secretariat will work with the Justice Advisory Group in preparing criteria for evaluating progress in the Justice Sector" JAG Team Leader Trevor Rogers was quoted as saying today. "Their initial work will be to assist us in establishing communication links with key decision makers in the sector, and to get our Port Moresby office functioning smoothly" Mr. Rogers said.
